Even the mighty John Lennon of the Beatles, wore a long sleeve Superman T-Shirt way back in 1966 for the cover of ”The Penguin John Lennon”. This book is a collection of two of Lennon’s early books ”John Lennon: In His Own Write” and ”A Spaniard in the Works” The books contain Lennon’s silly stories, poems and drawings.I know the ”JL” in the symbol was painted in at the time, but I’m pretty sure there is a photo of John wearing the actual Superman ”S” symbol on the shirt. I will post it when I can find the photo. John Lennon plays up the classic Superman George Reeves pose for this book cover. Later that year at a London art gallery, ”Super-Lennon” met the thing that would ultimately get him: Krypto-Yoko-Ono-nite.
Here’s a vintage Superman ringer t-shirt from the 1970′s. It’s a bit strange that the shirt is red/pink instead of white or blue. It’s currently selling on eBay for a mere $49.99!!! Who would of thought that a t-shirt that once sold for $3.98 in K-mart 30 years ago, would be selling for 50 big ones today? As Superman would say, ”Great Scott!”
Somewhere along the line some idiot thought, ”Wait a second… my car’s license plate has a chain around it. Wouldn’t it be cool if I put a big ass chain around Superman’s shield symbol?” The answer is no. One of the worst Superman T-shirt designs that I have come across so far.
